国际生｜西班牙女孩 Maria Rubio: 无需完美，勇敢前行

Dressed in an elegant graduation gown, Maria Rubio beams with joy as she poses for photos with her parents and friends at every scenic corner on CUHK-Shenzhen campus. The past four years have gone by in the blink of an eye. While the Spanish graduate feels a bittersweet farewell to her university days, she also looks forward with anticipation to the exciting new chapter ahead.

Rubio recently graduated from the School of Humanities and Social Science with a BA in Applied Psychology. Her four years at CUHK-Shenzhen not only enriched her academically but also helped her develop into a better person.

Rubio刚刚从人文社科学院毕业，获得应用心理学学士学位。在香港中文大学（深圳）的四年，她不仅在学业上收获颇丰，更成长为了更好的自己。

“I’ve become more responsible and improved my time management skills,” she says. “I’ve also learned some Chinese philosophy, such as the idea that you can’t control everything. Sometimes you just need to go with the flow and accept what happens.”

“我变得更加有责任感，时间管理能力也得到了提升，”她说。“我还学到了一些中国哲学思想，比如，人无法掌控一切，有时候只需要顺其自然，接受事情的发生。”

She adds, “You don’t need to be perfect. Just be true to yourself and keep moving forward. Everything will work out in the end.”

“你不必追求完美，只需做真实的自己，不断前进。一切终将水到渠成。”她补充。

The Journey to CUHK-Shenzhen

求学港中大（深圳）之路

Rubio completed her secondary education in Guangzhou. Enjoying her experience in China, she decided to pursue her undergraduate studies at a university in China. After doing some research, she ultimately applied to CUHK-Shenzhen.

Rubio在广州读完中学。由于在中国的生活体验很美好，她决定留下继续攻读本科学位。经过一番研究，她最终申请了香港中文大学（深圳）。

“This university is very international,” Rubio explains. “Everything here is in English, yet it still preserves Chinese culture, making it easier for international students to adapt.”

“这所大学非常国际化，”Rubio解释，“这里采用全英教学，同时又保留了中国文化氛围，让国际学生更容易适应。”

Another draw for her was the Applied Psychology programme. “I really enjoy my major. It’s fantastic. We have teachers from various countries, and the curriculum covers many areas of psychology, such as industrial, educational, clinical, and cognitive psychology.”

吸引她的另一点是应用心理学这个专业课程。“我真的很喜欢我的专业，它非常棒。我们的老师来自不同国家，课程设置涵盖了心理学的多个领域，例如工业、教育、临床及认知心理学。”

University Life

大学生活

In the fall of 2021, Rubio became a CUHK-Shenzhen student while still in Spain. Due to the pandemic, she was unable to travel to campus and had to attend classes online from Europe. The seven-hour time difference meant that she often joined lectures and took exams in the middle of the night. Although the experience was challenging, she remained determined and persevered through the difficulties.

2021年秋天，Rubio被港中大（深圳）录取。那时，她仍在西班牙。受新冠疫情影响，她无法前往校园，只能在欧洲远程上课。七小时的时差意味着她经常要在深夜上课、考试。虽然这段经历充满挑战，但她信念坚定，不断坚持，克服了重重困难。

“I really wanted to experience university life in person. I missed China,” she says.

“我真的很想亲身体验大学生活。我很想念中国，”她说。

During her second year, Rubio finally set foot on campus, filled with excitement and ready to embrace her new chapter. Her vibrant campus life quickly kicked off in full swing.

大二时，Rubio终于踏入校园。她满怀兴奋，准备迎接新篇章。丰富多彩的校园生活随即开启。

“My happiest moments were making friends and being part of the dance club,” she recalls. “We have International Day at the university, where I got to perform. It was such a beautiful experience and I had so much fun.”

“最让我快乐的时光是结交朋友和加入舞蹈社，”她回忆道，“学校的国际日时，我上台表演了。那是一次很美好的经历，我玩得非常开心。”

She enjoyed participating in university events, including Chinese cultural workshops and art-related activities. In her free time, Rubio loved exploring Shenzhen and sampling Chinese cuisine.

Rubio乐于参与各类校园活动，包括中国文化工作坊及艺术相关活动。闲暇之余，她还喜欢探索深圳这座城市，品尝中国美食。

“Shenzhen has many beautiful beaches,” she says. “I especially love going to Dameisha, which is not far from campus. When it comes to Chinese food, my favourite is Xiaolongbao.”

“深圳有许多美丽的海滩，”她说，“我特别喜欢去大梅沙，那里离学校不远。说到中国美食，我最喜欢的是小笼包。”

Growth

成长

Rubio says she was initially taken aback by the level of competition among her peers. “I was shocked when I realised some students here are quite ‘juan’ (卷),” she admits. “People are very competitive because you’re surrounded by the best. I wasn’t prepared for that.”

Rubio表示，起初她对同龄人之间的竞争强度感到有些不适应。“当我意识到有些学生相当‘卷’时，我感到很震惊，”她坦言，“周围都是超级优秀的人，所以竞争非常激烈，而我之前对这种情况没什么准备。”

However, she gradually found her own path to inner peace and learned not to get caught up in the pressure.

不过，她逐渐找到了属于自己的内心平静之道，学会了如何不被压力裹挟。

“I try to maintain a balance and not get too ‘juan’ (卷). I make time for my hobbies and sleep. You know what? You can still achieve good grades while maintaining a healthy balance.”

“我努力保持平衡，不至于太‘卷’。我会留出时间给我的爱好和睡眠。你知道吗，在保持健康平衡的状态下，你依然可以取好成绩。”

What’s Next?

Rubio has grown to love China and plans to pursue a master’s degree in Chinese Language and Culture at Shenzhen. With her background in Applied Psychology, she believes she can build something meaningful while deepening her understanding of Chinese culture.

Rubio逐渐爱上了中国，并计划在深圳攻读中国文化与语言硕士学位。凭借应用心理学的专业背景，她相信自己能在加深对中国文化理解的同时，开创一番有意义的事业。

“Maybe I can become an entrepreneur in China,” she smiles.

“也许我能在中国成为一名企业家，”她笑道。
